Information and updates

BASKETBALL

Senior A Basketball

The Senior A team were very unlucky in their semi-final game last Tuesday night against Christ's College. The boys put up a great fight in a very close game, but unfortunately they could not get their nose in front and came away with a 4 point loss, finishing 3rd overall in the Canterbury Secondary Schools Thompson Trophy.

This is the highest position that a St Bede’s team has held since the competition was introduced, and also qualified them for the national finals in Palmerston North which has unfortunately been cancelled because of the Level 2 restrictions.

Friday Night Basketball

The finals of Friday night basketball takes place tonight and big thank you to all the parents that have helped out with our teams over the last two terms. We managed to get 11 games in which was an excellent achievement under the currant climate in Level 2.

RUGBY

Congratulations to all our teams that are playing in the rugby finals this Saturday. St Bede’s College puts out 13 rugby teams each week and 11 of those teams are in the finals, which is an outstanding effort. This would not be possible without the help of our coaches, managers, and supporters and we thank you all very much for everything you have done over the season.

The 1st XV play St Andrew's College at St Andrew's in their semi-final which kicks off at 2.30pm. Entry is only by ticket.

HOCKEY

Hockey 1st XI are playing St Andrew's College in their semi-final tonight at Nga Puna Wai at 6.30pm and we wish them all the very best of luck. No doubt it will be a hard fought game.

Rangers have a bye tonight and the 2nd XI play Burnside High School 1st XI and the Colts play Christchurch Boys' High School Gold.

We wish them all good luck for their games tonight.

FOOTBALL

The 17A team have done really well moving up into Division 1 and will play Nomads United in a semi-final. We wish them well for that.

All other teams are playing cup and plate games and again we wish them well.

ROWING

Rowing are gearing up for another season and if you son would like to row please see the flyer and video further in the newsletter.

They are hosting an “Open Day” on Sunday 27 September at Stewart’s Gully from 9.00am to 12.00pm – all very welcome to attend with no experience necessary. A BBQ lunch will follow.

SEA 2 SKY RUN CHALLENGE

Congratulations to Ben Sutcliffe who ran in the Sea 2 Sky Challenge last weekend. Ben ran in the 17km coastal trail run up Captain Thomas track to Godley Head, on to Taylors Mistake, then up over Whitewash Head to Scarborough, overall a very tough run. Ben won the 15-19 year old section and was the 25 male to finish in a very respectable time of 1:39:47! Well done Ben - a great effort.

It is a real shame that Canterbury road race and cross-country were cancelled due to Level 2 restrictions as I am sure Ben would have featured well in these events also.
