Cricket

1st XI - Sacred Heart College Traditional

The 1st XI travelled to Auckland on Tuesday morning to play Sacred Heart College with the goal of bringing the David ‘Bomber’ Mills Cup home for the first time since the traditional started in 2010.

After winning the toss we struggled to 100/8 and after lunch Matt Boyle saved the innings by scoring an unbeaten 107* which took us to 216 all out.

Sacred Heart scored 172 during their first innings. Matt Munro starred by taking 6/39 off 24 overs.

The second innings saw St Bede’s score 187 with Matt Boyle again top scoring with 46 runs followed closely by Luke Gill on 36 runs.

On the final day of play, Sacred Heart required 230 runs to win the match, with St Bede’s requiring 10 wickets. Sacred Heart came up short by scoring 184 all out. Once again Matt Munro led the bowling attack by taking 5/68, with Jackson Hemingway taking 2/13 and Nick Munro 2/27.

Congratulations to...

  • Bailey Watson from the 10 Red cricket team who scored a very impressive 201 retired last Saturday against Christchurch Boys High School 10 Black.
  • Edward Lemon scored 101 retired against Christchurch 5th XI.  Ccongratulations, Edward, a fine effort.
  • Dominic Gardner took 5 wickets for 47 runs against St Andrews 2nd XI and Matt Munro took 5 wickets for 50 runs against Timaru Boys High School. A wonderful effort with the ball.

Cricket is in great heart here at the College, thanks to the wonderful coaching that is arranged by our Director of Cricket, Ben McCord.

CRICKET MANAGERS MEETING – this Monday, 13February at 7.00pm in the staffroom. You are a very vital cog in the running of cricket at the College and I look forward to meeting you all there.

Basketball

Interest in Basketball has grown over the past few years and we would like to form a Club for Basketball that will be responsible for running the sport within the College.

A meeting will be held on Monday, 27 February at 7.00pm in the St Bede's College staffroom in Marist house to establish a committee to run Basketball. If your son is planning to play Basketball this year, you are encouraged to attend this meeting please mark it in your dairy.

Wednesday Sport

Wednesday Sport commences 15 February so your son needs to check the Sports Noticeboard to see where his team is playing this Wednesday. Teams are now on the Sports Noticeboard.

Parents can check the draw on School Sport Canterbury website which is: www.canterbury.schoolsport.org.nz

Golf

If your son plays golf for a club and has a reasonable handicap, I would like to hear from him as we Canterbury Champs are being held in March.

The rowing crews are training very hard in preparation for the last three regattas of the season.  At the recent South Island Club Championships at Twizel, the crews won two silver and one bronze medals.
