Cultural activities around the college
St Bede’s has been busy with cultural highlights and celebrations over the last month.
Tongan Language Week
Tongan Language week (19-23 August) featured a combined Kahui Ako cultural concert at Marian College, with a performance from the Kapa Haka group.
St Bede’s students also joined Marian students on stage in a Samoan dance.
Another highlight of the week was the delicious Keke prepared for the boys to try one lunchtime. Thank you so much to Taimani, Vunivesi, Soana and Pooni, our lovely Tongan parents and friends who worked all morning in the PAC kitchen to make around 600 Keke!
SPACPAC Speech Competition
On 26 August, Gafatasi Ierome competed in the SPACPAC Canterbury Mamana Le Leo speech competition, alongside students from other Otautahi Pacific students. Gafatasi was commended for his speech as one of the top speakers of the day.
Pacific Student Leaders' Breakfast
The Pacific Student Leaders' breakfast was held on 6 September at Ara. It was great to hear from inspirational Pasifika speakers and to recognise Heinrich Muller, Julius Mumuta, and Troy Cutbush for their contributions to the college in Performing Arts and Culture alongside Pasifika students from around Canterbury.
