PISA 2022

Jon McDowall —

St Bede’s College has been selected to take part in PISA 2022, one of the world’s largest education research studies.

This consists of a group of students, pre-selected, completing an assessment. It will take place here at St Bede’s College on Tuesday 23 August 2022.

What is PISA?

PISA (Programme for International Assessment) can be understood as an independent health check for our education system. Its aim is to help governments around the world understand how well their education system is preparing children for success and informed citizenship after finishing school. Although independent of national measures, PISA aligns well with the desired outcomes of our Curriculum.

PISA data provides a rich source of information on correlations between system, school, home factors and student achievement, attitudes and wellbeing.

Selection process

Every student in New Zealand born 1 May 2066 to 30 April 2007 (approx. 15 years old) and enrolled in Year 8 and above has a chance of being selected to take part in PISA 2022. Students are selected by using a specialist sampling software, The software outputs a randomised, representative sample of students from each school.

If your son has been selected an email has already been sent out to the student and their Parents/Caregivers to inform them.

If your son has been selected, how can you support them?

The selected students will be representing other students like them around New Zealand and will be contributing to understanding and lifting our national education system.

You can help! You son’s teachers will be encouraging them to do the following, you can too:

  • Arrive on time
  • Take the test seriously
  • Try their best

There is no revision for them to do because the competences being assessed are those that they will have learnt and practised in school already.
