Strong symbolism in dramatic play
On Tuesday 10 September, the Year 12 drama class performed their play The Cagebirds by David Campton.
The cast was Sam Bishop, Alex Brown, Jared Hiso, Callum Knill, Harry Murphy, Alex Newton, Isaac Saywell Barbosa and Josh Snelgar.
The play is a symbolic story about what happens when daily routine is broken and the outside world demands that a decision must be made. In this remarkable play, which is set in a room like a cage, people who symbolise captive birds all become confused until a dramatic climax causes something to snap in the birds and then we suddenly see the reality.
Since the start of Term 3, we have been rehearsing in most class times and one Tuesday every fortnight. Ms Days was the director for our play and she was the best person to be directing. She knew what we were all capable of performing and she wanted us to show that to the audience when we were on stage.
This was a great play to be a part of, and it had a great atmosphere in all the rehearsals and the performance.
