Christchurch Regional Chess Power Competition

Mark Dowers —

Despite the lockdown forcing the cancellation of the onsite Christchurch Regional Chess Power competition, the tournament survived as a national online battle of wits. Three boys from St Bede’s College (Josh Karathra, Jaeger Pryce, and Jake O’Sullivan) competed. With tough competition, especially from the usual Chess rivals from the Canterbury Home Educators, as well as a large challenge from Naenae College in Lower Hutt our boys managed to get 3rd place for the St Bede’s team. Jaeger Pryce placed 5th overall, managing to draw against the previously undefeated champion from the first Christchurch tournament. Overall a great result from all who participated.
