From Smoke on the Water to Seven Nation Army - Year 9 Music

Ashleigh Mowbray —

In Year 9 Music this term students have not only been practicing Keyboard, but have also been learning to read guitar tablature or TAB. TAB is a notational system used to give detailed information as to where notes should be played on the fretboard of the guitar. It is generally presented as six horizontal lines representing the strings of the guitar and is a brilliant way to quickly and easily learn to play songs.

Year 9 classes are also working on practice tips, including; slow repetitions, getting rid of distractions and identifying their strengths and areas for improvement.

They are combining these good practices with their TAB reading and taking them into the band room where they are learning 'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes and 'Smoke on the Water' by Deep Purple on both guitar and drum kit!
