Course selection first step along NCEA pathway

James Burnside —

2024 will see the introduction of a new Year 11 curriculum that coincides with the changes to NCEA Level 1.

On Friday, 18 August, Years 10-12 students and families will be sent the senior pathways handbook alongside information about the new senior course selection process.

Course selection is a crucial step in the college’s planning process for 2024 and dictates staffing, class sizes and timetable construction. Students are being encouraged this year to spend additional time considering their options for 2024 and their future pathways; part of the process will involve discussions with their classroom teachers, Mana Tāne kaiako and caregivers to help students make informed decisions about their next steps.

On Wednesday, 6 September, families are invited to attend the Careers evening where they will have a final opportunity to ask questions and discuss courses with HOFs, TiCs and external providers about requirements for potential pathways.

The final part of the process will then take place on Monday, 11 September, when students enter their choices on the student portal, alongside their Mana Tāne kaiako.
