Rugby's Sunday Skill Sessions

Mark Ealey —

Moving from off- to pre-season

Rugby has offered around two dozen junior and senior student skill-sessions on Sundays during the off-season. As we move into the pre-season, the last session held on Sundays will be on 20 March.

We asked some of our regulars to comment. Here is what they had to say:

Joel Clarke (Yr 9): "The Sunday sessions have been great fun. It has been good to touch up on some skills getting ready the footie season. It has also been really good to learn new people's names before we started the school year."

Noah Love (Yr 10): "At the Sunday skill sessions run over the holidays, we worked on the fundamentals of the game. We improved and built on the skills we already had and then put them into game situations. The sessions really helped us refine our skills and to get in shape for the upcoming season. They were a lot of fun and kept us on our toes. They were also a chance for us to catch up with teammates and get to meet and welcome the Year 9s starting at St. Bedes this year."

Kymani Hau-Taunoa (Yr 10): "During the summer we focussed on our passing skills, in particular attacking the ball in the air and bringing in across our body in one motion and then following through. We also did some work on the breakdown and improved our fitness by doing some Broncos and some Malcolms."

Connor Carroll (Yr 11): "The Sunday sessions have been very helpful for developing my game and getting me prepped for the upcoming season. Not only have they been helpful to develop my game and skills, but also for my fitness."

Dan Parkin (Yr 11): "The Sunday skill sessions have been fun, challenging, and they have helped to improve my skills. They have also boosted my fitness and confidence as we head towards the season."

Junior Harris (Yr 12): "The Sunday session have been an awesome way of up-skilling yourself on a week-to-week basis. They really push you out of your comfort zone, helping to build as people on and off the field. They also serve as a way to connect with new boys we haven’t met before."

Christian Ioane (Yr 12): "The Sunday skill sessions have been a great way to connect with fellow students, get to know coaches better and of course sharpen your skill-set. These sessions not only prepare us for the rugby season but they also help us to hone our social skills as a student at St Bede's College."
