Greetings from St Bede's

Mr Justin Boyle —

We have had a good beginning to the term, and at assembly we reiterated the message from last week; re-emphasising how comparatively little tuition time is left for senior students. Therefore, the practice exercises in Week 5 are important to do, and preparation is required. On Thursday 9 August, we will have an outside presenter, Patrick Sherratt, who will give the boys some guidance on effective study habits.

Also at assembly, Mr Ryan gave a very good presentation introducing the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, which gave students another opportunity to be involved in an activity that has community, academic and physical focus.

On Wednesday morning the Year 13 boys listened to four of our Old Boys - Gerry Dwyer, Mark Floyd, Mark Brown and Jon Robertson, who spoke about their journeys once they left school.  The forum was a breakfast which was kindly provided by the Old Boys’ Association.  This initiative is running alongside the Zest Programme which the Year 13 boys have been undertaking this term.  An important component of this programme revolves around the boys discovering what type of personalities they are, and therefore what type of employment they may pursue, rather than specifically focusing on one career.

This week we sent more than 230 letters to those boys who are applying for a place at St Bede’s in 2019.  We can only offer 170 boys a place, so the remainder will be on a waiting-list.  If for some reason parents have not put in an application for a younger sibling or a current student, please contact the College as soon as possible.

Until next time.

Justin
