From the Rector

Mr Justin Boyle —

Greetings from St Bede’s.

We have had two productive weeks back on site. Staff have spent the time assessing the work the boys have done during lockdown and have readjusted their programmes accordingly. In light of recent announcements from the government, sport and arts programmes have also begun in earnest, and that too has lifted the spirits of the boys.

We are mindful that for many of the boys their year has been derailed to a certain extent, particularly for the Year 13s, who have a major role to play in various community events that we have had to postpone or cancel this year. To that end we are planning a number of events and opportunities with the aim of helping the boys make the most of this disrupted year. While many of them are disappointed, there will be other opportunities if the boys are open to them. Their 2020 may not have panned out the way they had planned, but if their mindset is right, other doors will open that they may not have thought about. The lessons learned this year and their response to these, is good preparation for the other "curve" balls they will inevitably receive later in life.

To help them reset, we have asked Bishop Paul, who is a former teacher and Rector, to celebrate mass for the boys on Wednesday morning at 8:15am. Later in June we will continue to give the boys opportunities through our Careers Programme, and we are planning other opportunities next term.

One of those activities we unfortunately have had to postpone was St Bede's Feast Day. The seniors ran other activities to mark the feast of our patron. Following is the link to a video put together by the Prefects along with an attached St Bede's Quiz that you may enjoy sharing with your son over the long weekend.

Feast Day 2020

We hope you received your email advising of the launch of our Bedean Community Appeal. If you need financial assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic or you are aware of someone within our St Bede’s community that does, please contact us in confidence here.

Alternatively, if you are in a position to assist others in our community by making a donation to the Bedean Community Fund please do so here.

Please be assured that the appeal process will be handled in the strictest confidence. We look forward to working together to ensure that all boys at St Bede’s can participate in all that our College has to offer.

Until next week,

J. G. Boyle
