CSO 'Variations' Concert - Review by Marik Ancheta

Ashleigh Mowbray —

On the 25th of March, a few students and parents were invited to watch the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra perform in the Christchurch Town Hall. The concert, ‘Variations’, consisted of three songs.

Beginning the night was Dances of Galánta by Kodály – based on Hungarian Folk music displaying nimble dances through song. Following that was a welcoming drum roll and applause inviting Michael Endres to perform Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninov. Somehow capturing every possible emotion in his performance, he trapped the audience in awe. And soon later, Michael was trapped in our roaring applause. Ending the night we had Enigma Variations by Elgar starring the Principal Cellist, Galyna Zelinska. Only with four strings and bow, she took everyone’s attention as if a spotlight were upon her.

Overall the night was one to remember. We thank Mrs King and Ms Mowbray for this opportunity and applaud the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for their incredible talent.
