Greetings from the Rector

Mr Justin Boyle —

Until today, our new term had begun well...

The improved weather helps and in my visits to the classes last week, the boys appeared settled and focused with Seniors finishing internal assessments, sitting mock papers and preparing for the end of year exams.

Summer sports have begun and it's great to be able to keep doing some activities out of the classroom that are within the bounds of the Ministry of Education guidelines.

COVID-19 restrictions have seen us cancel many of our events, leading to the end of the year.

In particular, we are mindful of the impact this is having on our Year 13 students. The Leavers’ Breakfast and Tie Ceremony both sponsored by the Old Boys’ Association have unfortunately been part of these cancellations. We are now looking to hold an event for the Year 13 boys in December, when the vaccination numbers are up, to allow us to bring the boys and their families together to celebrate the end of their schooling as students of St Bede’s. This will not be done in the traditional way of different events over a number of weeks before exams, but we do hope to make this event special incorporating a Mass, acknowledgements, dinner, crucifix and Old Boys’ tie presentation all at the same event after exams. It may even start a new tradition or will be recorded in the history of St Bede’s as the year that traditions had to be adapted. If we are able to hold this celebration, we will certainly share it with you in our first newsletter of 2022.
