Congratulations Fr Rick Loughnan and Fr John Adams!

Kathryn Eagle —

There have been two exciting appointments in our community this month.

The SBCOBA would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to these two hard working old boys.

Fr Rick Loughnan (1965-1970) has been honoured with the title of Monsignor. Bishop Michael gave this message upon making the announcement:

"It is with joy I announce that Fr Rick Loughnan has been honoured by his Holiness Pope Francis with the title of Monsignor, which designates him as a Chaplain of the Holy Father. This honour has been bestowed upon Monsignor Rick in recognition of his many years of faithful and humble service to both the local and national Church. I join with you in congratulating Monsignor Rick and his family on this special occasion."

On June 22 it was also announced that Fr John Adams (1977-1981) has been appointed Bishop-Elect of the Catholic Diocese of Palmerston North by the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Fr John was born, baptised, and educated in Christchurch. He later trained and served as a teacher before entering the seminary in 1995. In 2003 he was ordained a priest. He ministered in Greymouth and Christchurch, and is currently residing at the St Peter Chanel Catholic Parish Waimakariri.

Fr John Adams has been a regular fixture and trophy winner at our Annual Old Boys Golf Tournament over the years and we sincerely hope he will have to opportunity to be part of this event in the future despite his new responsibilities.

Congratulations again Monsignor Rick Loughnan and Bishop-Elect John Adams!
