Library Update

Mrs C Walker —

Did you know our Library has it's own website? As well as linking to the catalogue, where you can see what items are in the school library collection and find out what's new, the website has a range of helpful resources for recreational reading and research.

Under Reading Resources you will find:

  • A range of book lists that contain reading suggestions sorted by genre. All of these lists contain authors or books currently in the school library.
  • Information on accessing Christchurch City Libraries eBook and eAudio collections, plus a range of other sites offering access to free eBooks and eAudiobooks.
  • Information on accessing free online short stories.
  • A list of great websites you can access to get reading recommendations and suggestions, find out what to read next, find out who writes like your favourite authors and get news about great new books.
  • A list of book blogs worth following.
  • A purchase request form - if you want something that the library doesn't currently have, you can suggest we buy an item here. Suggestions are always welcome!

Under Research Resources you will find:

  • Information on the Epic databases, which contain thousands of international and New Zealand magazines, newspapers, biographies, reference works, and images. EPIC lets you access up-to-date full text articles covering a huge range of subjects.
  • Information and a link to Any Questions/Many Answers, a site which is staffed by librarians who help you search online for information you need. Many Questions involves engaging in live chat with a librarian. The Many Answers section of the site allows you to search while you wait. You can also access curated information on featured topics.
  • Information and a link to Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand. This is a very comprehensive guide to our people, history, culture, economy, natural environment and society. It is available in English and Te Reo Maori and contains a huge range of stories, biographies, and images. It is divided into sections for ease of use.
  • Information and a link to The National Library of New Zealand's Topic Explorer. This site helps you find quality, curated resources on a range of topics to support and inspire inquiry. Each topic features a carefully selected set of national and international resources, including websites, images, videos, books and more.
