Great to see the U15 White team secure a nail-biting victory. Down by one with 10 seconds left on the clock, Brad Lanorias secured a steal from full court pressure then found Nikau Campbell with a pass and finished through two defenders. With 5 seconds remaining the opposition called a timeout to advance the ball however, they did not get a shot up and U15 White secured a well-earned win.

The senior side travelled to Wellington during the week as basketball made its first appearance within the annual exchange with St Pat’s Silverstream. Playing in front of a vocal home crowd of several hundred, the hosts immediately showed their class by leaping to an early lead. Aggressive full court defense from St Pat’s rattled St Bede’s, forcing us into turnovers and hindering any impact on the deficit.

As the game progressed the Bede’s guards became a little more comfortable with the defensive intensity and began to make better decisions which allowed some easy baskets in transition.

St Bede’s rallied to come within 10 points of the home side however turnovers continued to plague the side and unfortunately the margin increased as the second half commenced.

Overall this was a hugely valuable experience for the team, pitting themselves against a different style of play particularly the intensive defense. St Pat’s Silverstream are currently ranked #1 in Wellington school basketball and provided a formidable opponent with future clashes as part of the exchange a welcome addition to the basketball calendar.

St Pat’s 102 St Bede’s 78 (Griffyn Westwood 32, Harrison Earl 12, James Leen 11)

The club will be running a coaching clinic on Tuesday 13th July from 9am-3pm for all Yr 9/10 boys to enhance their skills and learn the Bede’s style of play. Cost for this clinic will be $25 with our club coaches involved along with the possibility of some of some special guests.
