America's Cup Parade

St Bede's College Office —

Christchurch City will host an America’s Cup victory parade on Wednesday 12 July.

Emirates Team New Zealand will be welcomed to the South Island at a ceremony from 12 noon. The parade will feature the Auld Mug and 25 members of the victorious team.

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel says Emirates Team New Zealand has done the nation proud in winning the America's Cup.

"I wrote the team a letter congratulating them on the win. I said we would love to host them in the city to welcome them home in South Island style and they came back saying they were considering the request. I am just so delighted that they have said yes to our offer," she says.

"It's going to be a huge day in the central city. It's perfect that the parade coincides with the school holidays and we really hope that people will come out in force to join in the celebrations. There will be a party atmosphere with entertainment for all.”

Mayor Dalziel says that planning is now underway and more details about the event will be released over the next few days.

"We are delighted that the team is coming to Christchurch which has such a proud sporting record with the city having produced numerous champion sailors."

Full details of the parade, viewing locations and transport will be made available once finalised.
