Vocational Pathways

This term has been very busy with setting up our students to look at possible vocational pathways into the future. Hence, forty-one students completed first aid training looking at how to manage first aid in emergency situations, as well as a basic understanding of life support.

This week twenty-eight Gateway students participated in health and safety training which will prove invaluable when they complete their work placement. Presently, nine of these students are working in industry one day a week from rebab mechanics to horse training.

If at some stage schools must close, the time available could be well spent accessing possible work experience, for now or later in the year.

Next week, we have planned university liaison visits from UC (25 March Pd 5), and Lincoln (27 March Pd 5). Otago will be the following week (Monday 30 March).

Currently some students are involved in forklift training and / or leadership in the workplace courses. The College has government funding to offer these courses fees-free to our students.

Finally, notification has just come through about the postponement of the Dunedin Tertiary Open Day, which included Otago University and Polytechnic.
