Student Service / Kāhui Ako Raki Hub

Chris Hubble and Matt Malone —

Over the past four weeks the Kāhui Ako Raki hub has worked in collaboration with St Joseph’s Rangiora and the St Bede’s College Year 11 senior students,

to provide service to primary students during winter sports activities on a Friday afternoon. This was a fantastic opportunity for senior students to share their knowledge and skills with the students of St Joseph’s Rangiora, as well as develop their own leadership capability. This also reflected the Māori concept of Tuakana Teina – the older sharing knowledge with the younger and Ako (reciprocal learning) with some of the senior students stepping out of their comfort zone, leading activities such as netball where they had little knowledge and learnt from the younger students.

The senior students have appreciated the opportunity to give back through service and develop closer connections to our Catholic hub schools.

Thanks go to Liam Foley (St Bede’s College) and Peter Richmond (St Joseph’s Rangiora) for the coordination of this opportunity.

Ngā mihi nui
