Message of forgiveness at Ash Wednesday liturgy

Rachel Pitcaithly —

On Wednesday, the college gathered together in the quad to receive ashes in our Ash Wednesday liturgy. Led by the Prefect team, we reminded that the ashes we receive symbolise that we know we make mistakes and that we want to seek forgiveness from God and those around us.

We were also encouraged to think about what we might commit to during Lent, the period of 40 days that prepares us for the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter.

Pope Francis reminds us that fasting during Lent could be:

‘Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
Fast from worries and have trust in God.’
