Message from the Rector

Greetings from St Bede's

Year 11s were on retreat this week, and the tireless Fr Manning was on hand to hear confessions. Reconciliation must have been top of mind when he came (as usual) to lead us in Benediction this morning, where the following reading was shared:

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed him.

And as he sat at dinner in a house, many tax-collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax-collectors and sinners?’ But when he heard this, he said, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.’

                                                                                 Matthew 9:9-13

In his brief reflection that followed, he stressed the need not only of the much maligned tax-collector to be reconciled. All of us at some stage are in need of reconciliation and mercy to repair our relationship with God.

Year 11s also had the benefit of UCANDO presenter, Stuart Wright, who ran a series of presentations around improving the boys’ study skills. He will run a presentation for parents on Monday, 4 July in the Performing Arts Centre starting at 7pm. This will include information on the teenage brain and how to get the best out of it! This seminar is approximately 2 hours in duration and is free to St Bede’s parents.

Until next week
