Stage Challenge 2016

41 Performers and 6 Crew! What a team and what an amazing performance!

St Bede's College have had quite the break from being part of the Stage Challenge experience. The last time we entered a team was in 2013, so there were very few students who really understood what they were signing up for. Stage Challenge is an experience like no other and students should be encouraged to take part in this at least once during their time at St Bede's College.

The Stage Challenge Competition is a drama dance performance set to a soundtrack of no more than 8 minutes. This year, our theme was focused on the misuse of social media and the isolation that a lot of students experience as a result of cyber bullying. Our team had been rehearsing for two months and had spent quite a bit of time at school rehearsing during the holidays as well. With a small and dedicated cast, we pulled a very slick performance together in no time.

St Bede's College is one of the few boy's schools; the only in Canterbury that enter Stage Challenge as a boy's school without the support of their sister school. This is something that always impresses the judges as it is quite overwhelming to see an all boys cast performing with such conviction. This, along with their very powerful theme and story, is something that they can all be very proud of.

The competition was tough and the standard of all performances were much higher than in previous years. For the boys watching other schools rehearsing during the day, they were feeling very overwhelmed with the high level of skill in each school's performance. St Bede's performance was every bit as competitive. At the end of a very long day, Rangiora High School were declared the very deserving winners of this competition.

Well done to all of the St Bede's students that took part in this event!
