Crazy Tie Day

Fundraising by the SVO Group

This Friday the student led service group, S.V.O, organised a crazy tie day. This involved students wearing the wackiest, craziest ties that they could find. It was a day for students to show some individuality and have a bit of a laugh. However more importantly they were asked to bring a gold coin donation. We raised a total of over $400 which is awesome and will help with a new initiative the service group intends to launch.

At the college we pride ourselves on being a community unlike any other. The brotherhood formed here is unique and community is what makes students proud to call ourselves Bedeans. We, however, recognise that we are also part of a larger community here in Christchurch. Thus when we see people within our own community, especially kids younger than ourselves, going hungry to school we feel an obligation to do something about it. The new initiative plans to provide lunch to primary school children attending Aranui Primary School. Once a week students will gather before school to prepare sandwiches which will then be delivered to these children during lunch. We believe a small act like this will make a positive impact in the world and while we recognise that we cannot change the entire world, we hope that through our acts of service we can change the entire world for one person.
