Message from The Rector

Greetings from St Bede's

We have come to the end of Vocations Week, and there have been a good number of priests, professed religious, seminarians who have visited and spoken to a number of R.E. classes.

At assembly we made a presentation to one of these priests, Fr Dave Gledhill to mark his 50 years as a priest in the Society of Mary. Well known to many in the St Bede's community for his athletic and sporting ability, as well as his leadership at the College in the late 1950's. He was Head Boy in 1959. For many years he has worked in Maori communities in the North Island, and it was great that he was able to share some of his experiences with our boys during his time here this week.

I would like to share two other pieces from this assembly.  One is a clip we attach about vocations which sums up very well what a vocations is . The other is a presentation Mr Foley made of his trip to France in the last holidays. where he joined a number of other young Marist educators from around the world.  They were  there to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the inspiration behind the formation of The Society of Mary, which is the order that founded St Bedes.

This is worth sharing because it reminds us all that as a College, we are part of something far bigger, and highlights a way of life that we as lay Marists have a responsibility to continue in our individual school communities.

Until next week

Justin Boyle
