'Dare to Prepare' Study Skills Programme

Important information for parents of Year 11 students

Many schools around New Zealand involve students in the study skills programme, “Dare to Prepare”, designed for students to improve specific study techniques and enhance learning.

An opportunity for our Year 11 students to participate in this has arisen. Given the proximity of school exams, (12-19 August, Week 4, next term) and the expectation that students will begin their study and revision programme during the school holidays, we have arranged for our Year 11 students to attend one of Stuart Wright’s 2 hour UCANDO workshops on Wednesday 29 June or Friday 1 July. Please note this does not interfere with their Retreat programme but will fit around it.

UCANDO programs are designed:

1) To motivate students of all ages to work to their full potential.

2) To give these same students skills to become independent self-regulated learners

See www.ucando.co.nz

This opportunity has been subsidised by the Board of Trustees who are eager to see students given opportunities to enhance their achievement. This means a small charge of only $10 per student will be charged to your account for the two hour session.

The seminar groups will be based on the student’s RE classes to ensure that we don’t cut across the retreat time. Students need to bring their diary, paper and a pen and are to assemble in the PAC.

  • Seminar 1 Wednesday 29th June 10.30 – 12.30 (period 3 & 4)
    RE3 (MCM) RE5 (BRY)
    RE4 (FES)
  • Seminar 2 Wednesday 29th June 12.50 – 2.40 (period 5+6) RE2 (MAL)
  • Seminar 3 Friday 1st July 8.15 – 10.15 (period 1 & 2) RE5.2 (MCM) RE2.2 (MCM) RE 1 (BRY)

There will also be a separate parent’s seminar on MONDAY, 4 July in the Performing Arts Centre starting at 7pm. This will be information on the teenage brain and how to get the best out of it! This seminar is approximately 2 hours in duration and free to St Bede’s parents.
