This week's sporting news from St Bede's College

Hockey ANZAC Tournament

After St Bede's College 1st XI Hockey team's great performance at tournament last year they were invited by Auckland Grammar School to participate in their annual ANZAC tournament in Auckland. The team also stayed at Tibbs House which is the boarding school for Auckland Grammar and all games were played at Grammar. 

 The boys got off to a great start in the tournament winning 2 – 1 against Auckland Grammar Blue side, 3 – 2. They then went on to play Rathkeale College from Masterson and won 2 – 1. Auckland Grammar Gold was a really tough game but great experience and we went done 0 – 4 to them, but finished the tournament on a high by beating St Peter’s College from Cambridge 3 – 1.

Rugby

Rugby kicks off this Saturday for all teams. 

 The 1st XV plays Nelson College here at 12.00 pm which is being broadcast on Sky, and next Wednesday they play Christ College here at 2.30 pm and this is also on Sky.

Cross Country

Nick Moulai ran the race of his life for the New Zealand Secondary Schools team in Budapest coming 22nd over all and with this placing at the World Cross Country Championships sees Nick ranked 3rd worldwide for his age group (Under 16). We heard about Nick’s trip at the Summer Sports Assembly on Thursday. Well done Nick we are all very proud of you.

Equestrian

Todd Magner competed at the New Zealand Pony Club Championships over the holiday and was placed in his individual event 2nd and the his Regional team won the team event, which was an amazing achievement. Congratulations Todd on your New Zealand title.

Tae Kwon Do

Jacob Moylan competed in the New Zealand Tae Kwon Do Open and won both the coloured belt and black belt titles in the Under 14, 65Kg and over Cadet division. This is an outstanding achievement, especially when he has not been graded for his black belt yet. Congratulations Jacob on an outstanding achievement and keep up the great work.
