Fr John Adams blessing the jerseys of the First XI teamMembers of the First XI team by Mr Chris Hubble

First XI Football

The 1st XI Football team started the week with a liturgy and blessing of the jerseys by Fr John Adams.

The selected reading during the liturgy was the Parable of the Talents. Through the reading and reflection, the team learnt that everyone has gifts and talents and it is what we do with these gifts and talents that is important.

We could be like first man in the reading and use our talents to improve them and grow in our abilities and in our faith. This can be through our training and how we look after ourselves to be the best sportsmen we can be.

Another option is to be like the third man. To have natural talent but to do nothing with it. To not show up to trainings or put in a weak effort on game day. This attitude will undoubtedly lead to disappointment and failure. It is important to use and honour your god given talents.

Fr John Adams blessed the jerseys and we prayed for a good season ahead. The team was unified by the experience and reminded that we must live our faith both on and off the field.

This transferred into game day as on Wednesday night we dispatched Linwood High 6-0 at the Christchurch Football Centre.

It would be great to see a few more supporters at next Wednesdays game, 4pm vs St Thomas’ at the same ground.
