Special Character Reflection:

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

Pentecost is the birthday of the Church because without the Holy Spirit, there would be no Church, and there would be no mass or uniting together. It is the Spirit that brings us together today, it is the Spirit that breathed into the authors of the Sacred Scriptures we read together at Mass. It is by the Power of the Holy Spirit that bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ, it is the Spirit that fills us here, but it is also the Spirit that accompanies us when we leave. Just like those first disciples, we are empowered by God to carry forth the Good News to the entire world.

Pentecost signifies a moment of transformation and renewal. The Holy Spirit transformed fearful and uncertain disciples into bold evangelists, spreading hope and salvation. Similarly, within a community, Pentecost invites us to seek personal transformation and renewal as well as the collective transformation of our communities. It challenges us to be agents of change, inspiring others through our actions and working towards the betterment of society. By embracing the teachings of Pentecost and incorporating its values of empowerment, diversity, sharing, collaboration, and transformation, we can foster vibrant, compassionate, and thriving communities that reflect the love and grace of God.

Kind regards,
