At 9.00am on Tuesday 20 August, 18 eager St Catherine's College mathematicians arrived at Victoria University to participate in the 2024 Mathswell Competition.  The competition tested student skills across a wide variety of mathematical disciplines and applications.  It was divided into two sections - short answer and multichoice.  Students worked in groups of 3 with a 15 minute time limit to answer 13 short answer questions as possible.  Teams were given two chances to correctly answer each question.  The 15 multichoice questions had to be answered within 10 minutes.

Many thanks to Ms Arbas and Mr Khan for running the Mathswell training sessions this term to prepare the students for the event.

This was the first time that the competition was held at Victoria University and the first time that it was run as a daytime event.  Some of our students even managed a last-minute entry to the Senior Mathematics Competition that was running concurrently with Mathswell. 

We are looking forward to entering even more teams in the competition next year.
