Tēnā koutou katoa e te whānau

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

Last week was the beginning of Lent. Lent is a time when Christians are encouraged to adopt an attitude of prayer, repentance, and humility. It is good for everyone, regardless of our faith, to remember that life is fragile and everyone should remember our need to be kind and sorry for our wrong-doing.

We can feel helpless when there is so much suffering in our community. We know many in our community have been affected by the floods. We have strong connections to Tangoio Marae. We have whānau connections to Waiora and the Catholic Community community. They have asked for our prayers.

Tuesdays Gospel reading Matthew 6: 7-8 Jesus said to his disciples: "In your prayers do not babble as the pagans do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves hear... you should pray like this:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

We encourage you to learn to pray the Our Father in Te Reo.

E to mātou Matua i te rangi,

kia whakatapua tōu Ingoa,

kia tae mai tōu rangatiratanga

,kia whakaritea tōu hiahiai te whenua,

kia pērā anō i to te rangi.

Hōmai ki a mātou āianeihe taro mā mātou mō tēnei rā.

Whakakāhoretia ō mātou hara,me mātou e whakakore nei,

i ngā hara o te hunga,e hara ana ki a mātou;

kaua mātou e tukua,

kia whakawaia,engari, whakaorangia, mātou i te kino.

Nōu hoki te rangatiratanga,te kaha me tekorōria mo āke, āke.
