Kia ora e te whānau

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

The theme for Lent 2023 is “I am the Light of the World.” Our journey through Lent centres on the life of Jesus and his call for us to draw closer to God and look to be love and light to others.

During Lent this year, we hope that we all are challenged to reconnect with THE Light of the World as we are inspired to bring light in the world at the same time. (Caritas)

On Wednesday, we farewelled our Year 10 as they began their hikoi to camp in Jerusalem. I felt emotional as I waved goodbye. Jerusalem, Hiruhārama in Māori, is a tiny settlement 66 kilometres up the Whanganui River Rd. The Sisters of Compassion came into being in Jerusalem in 1892 when Suzanne Aubert responded to the call of Māori and came to serve and work in their community. We cannot wait to hear what a great time they have all had—a huge thank you to the staff and parents supporting this trip.

"Challenges exist to be overcome! Let us be realists, but without our hope-filled commitment.  Let us not allow ourselves to be robbed of missionary vigour!" Pope Francis

We pray that our staff and students are kept safe and return filled with the spirit of companionship and joy.
