NCEA Evening

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

Last Thursday the Ministry of Education presented an information evening on NCEA. It was wonderful to see so many of our whānau able to attend.

As well as covering how NCEA works and what students need to achieve at each level they also stressed the importance of doing well in External Examinations and the value of striving to do your very best even once you have achieved the minimum to achieve at each level.

Universities are working hard to get the very best students.  They attract these with academic scholarships.  What universities are looking for are students who have Merit or Excellence endorsements (50 Credits at Excellence or Merit), and Subject endorsements (14 Credits at Excellence or Merit including external marks).  They are also looking for students who are diligent, display leadership and or excel in other areas of their lives.

Your tama wahine (daughter) may not know what they want to do, or if they want to go to further study.  It is essential that they keep as many options open and continue to strive to do their best.
