Letter to Year 10 parents and the trip to Jerusalem

Andrea Graham —

Kia ora and welcome to 2023. I am Andrea Graham, introducing myself as the Year 10 Dean and letting you know about our upcoming trip to Jerusalem on the Whanganui River - photo of Andrea below.

I am very excited about my role in supporting our Year 10 students and looking after their pastoral needs.

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding your Year 10 daughter, please contact me by email: andrea.graham@scc.school.nz

Year 10 is an important year to prepare our students for the academic demands of Year 11 and NCEA. Therefore I have very high expectations of our Year 10 students.

At the end of 2022, I met with the students and we constructed our expectations together. They are:

I think you will agree that these are a good foundation for our Year 10s to be successful this year.

Year 10 Trip to Jerusalem.

This trip is for all the Year 10s.

Currently, we are in the planning stages of this trip. So there will be more details to come.

This trip involves all of Year 10 travelling up to Jerusalem situated up the Whanganui River. This is a fantastic opportunity to visit somewhere so rich in New Zealand History. It is the home of three of our Year 10 students who attend St Catherine’s and Board in Wellington. It was also where Suzanne Aubert and the Sisters of Compassion began their mission. It was also home to James K Baxter one of New Zealand's famous writers.

When

Depart Wednesday 15th March at 8.30 am

Return on the 17th March by 3.20 pm.

We travel by bus

We will be staying either on the Marae or beside at the Home of Compassion

We are planning activities on our way there, likely to stop in Whanganui at the swimming pool, the gardens and then we will stop and explore on our way home.

Cost $150

We have worked hard to keep the costs down and the PTA has generously offered to pay the cost of the bus. Please do not let money be a barrier to your daughter attending. We can support families with this and it can also be paid off in installments. The office will invoice you for this.

Parent Help

We are looking for some parents to accompany us so if you are interested please send me an email. (No cost for Parents)

I am travelling to Jerusalem on Tuesday/Wednesday of next week and I will send a letter outlining the full programme.
