Ngā mihi o te whānau

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

O'Shea is hosted this Saturday and Sunday weekend by St Mary's. I wish them the best of luck and thank the students, staff and alumnae for all their hard work preparing for this special event. They performed for us on Wednesday, and they we amazing.

Uniform

It is good to see everyone looking smart in their winter uniforms, however, I would appreciate your support regarding our jewellery rules. There appears to be a growing number of nose rings, extra piercings, and jewellery, possibly resulting from holiday purchases. Students are only permitted to wear one pair of simple earrings, a cross or taonga under their shirt and one ring is also allowed. No other jewellery or piercings are permitted at school, and we will confiscate extra jewellery if students cannot follow these simple rules. There is plenty of time to wear extra jewellery when out of uniform.

Hair colour is to be a natural hair colour and to be tied up.

Ties are optional.  Winter shoes are to be worn for terms 3 & 4; last week, we still had several students wearing sandals.  If you need support with uniform, please make constant with your daughter/s Dean.

Attendance

Last night the Sunday programme had a feature on Attendance. "Truancy is a thief. It steals opportunities and takes away futures" - Grant McMillan. Truancy makes it more difficult for students to achieve their goals.  If you need support getting your daughter to school, please make contact.  We have Sophie, our Counsellor, here three days a week and a social worker on Mondays; we can also support with snapper cards.  We are preparing students for their future.  More than one day a fortnight is deemed unacceptable by the Ministry of Education—every day at school matters. Attendance is a crucial building block - of knowledge and habits that will help them now and in the future.
