Tēnā koutou e te whānau

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

Te Rā Whānau o Meri Hohepa Suzanne Aubert - Last Sunday was the 187th birthday celebration of Suzanne Aubert the founder of the Sisters of Compassion.

A group of 8 St Catherine's students attended this special occasion. It was also the day of prayer for Refugees and Immigrants. Earlier in the week, the Gospel said, "You, therefore, must be perfect as your heavenly Father is. (Matthew 5:48). As we acknowledged Suzanne Aubert we are reminded by her that we are to be Christ-like. Try to be like God. As we try, we become more like God. "Above all, let us be kind because kindness is what most reminds us of God." Suzanne Aubert.

We give thanks for the inspiration of people like Suzanne Aubert and Catherine McAuley who showed us it was possible to be like God. To show kindness is to become God-like, to resemble God. We give thanks to the people that show us compassion and goodness to others. May we be open to sharing this with others.

At this Mass, the Gospel was of the loaves and fishes. It was a story of God's abundant love. Through Jesus' instruction, food was provided in abundance. This is how good and abundant God's love is for us. Suzanne and Catherine trusted in God's providence; there will always be enough. We may need to follow this example in our own lives.
