BLAKE Inspire 2023

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

We are hoping to encourage some additional applications from Year 11-13 Māori and Pacific rangatahi for BLAKE Inspire - an awesome hands-on inspirational learning opportunity. The applications are open now ( until March 5th).

If interested to apply via this link https://www.blakenz.org/programmes/blake-inspire/

BLAKE Inspire is a week-long residential leadership development programme in partnership with the Ministry for the Environment and in 2023 we are excited to be running three programmes (up to 35 students per programme):

  • 17 – 21 April in Waikato
  • 9 – 13 July in Auckland
  • TBC August in Auckland

Throughout the week students will work together with scientists, environmental experts, a diverse range of leaders and other like-minded students to help them develop strong leadership skills while learning about topical environmental issues and how they can take action to tackle them.

Participation, adventure and learning are all key requirements for delegates. They will take part in environmental and marine science activities and visit businesses and local organisations to learn about what they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment. Most importantly, students have heaps of fun and leave BLAKE Inspire with new friends, skills and clear action plans to start making positive change within their own schools and communities.

BLAKE Inspire is an annual opportunity open to young New Zealanders thanks to a number of BLAKE supporters, including programme partner, the Ministry for the Environment. Given the strong demand for the programme, this year, we have expanded BLAKE Inspire to support 105 delegates throughout the year, and will be offering the programme through at least 45 fully subsidised scholarships and 60 partially subsidised positions at $650 + GST (flights are included in the cost/scholarship). As with every year, we are seeking a diverse group of young New Zealanders for the programme and encourage people from all parts of Aotearoa, and all ethnicities, to apply to participate.

BLAKE Inspire delegates become eligible to join future BLAKE Expeditions as student voyagers.

Please note that due to the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle, applications for BLAKE Inspire have been extended and will now close on Sunday, 5th March 2023.
