Over the past two weeks, St Catherine’s College has been abuzz with activity, embracing learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our Year 9 students had an enriching experience at Puke Ahu, deepening their understanding of history and culture in a meaningful way. Meanwhile, our school leaders put their culinary skills to the test on Shrove Tuesday, delighting us all with delicious pancakes as part of a successful fundraiser.

Athletics Day #2 brought another round of spirited competition, showcasing the athleticism and camaraderie of our students. Year 9 competing against all other year groups and staff have won the relay by far! We are so proud of our teina and the way they settle so quickly in our community!
Additionally, the much-anticipated sports exchange with St Patrick’s College fostered school pride and healthy rivalry, reminding us of the value of teamwork and perseverance.

The Ash Wednesday Liturgy was a profoundly special moment for our school community, marking the beginning of Lent with prayer and reflection. We extend our gratitude to the new Mass band for their dedication and hard work.

During our recent learning-from-home day, we trust that our students dedicated themselves to their studies, making the most of this independent learning opportunity. While students engaged in their studies remotely, our staff participated in a Professional Development session on Relational Practice—an approach aimed at resolving conflicts while strengthening student and teacher relationships. This valuable training ensures that our school remains a supportive and nurturing environment for all.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, our school engaged in a week-long series of activities to honour the contributions of women. From reading inspirational quotes and wearing purple ribbons to participating in a scavenger hunt about our female teachers and a quiz on remarkable women, the spirit of the occasion was truly felt. A particular highlight was Sister Stephanie Kitching’s visit to our Year 11 students, where she shared the incredible story of the Mercy work in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands.

Additionally, our Year 12 students had the privilege of hearing from Kathy Ryan, who emphasised the importance of academic success in their current year as a foundation for future scholarship opportunities. Her words served as a timely reminder of the significance of hard work and dedication.

Today, we embraced the joy of numbers with our first-ever Pi Day celebration! This house competition brought an exciting and engaging way to appreciate Mathematics on an international scale. We eagerly await the results and commend all students for their enthusiastic participation.

As we journey through the Lenten season, we extend our wishes of peace and reflection to all our families. Lent is a time for renewal, and as Pope Francis reminds us, it is a season of hope and conversion. May this period bring spiritual growth and unity within our school community.
