We started the week with a celebration led by the Saoman students and parents.

After the ceremony, we had a wonderful shared meal together, staff students and their fono.  As we celebrate the beginning of Samoan Language Week, we also recognise this year as the 60th anniversary of Samoan independence. The SCC community is so blessed to share in the absolute love and passion that lies in the diversity of our Tangata Pasifika. šŸ¤ Monday morningā€™s celebration, ā€˜Siva o le Avaā€™, recognised the significance of women in the role of the Taupou during the Ava Ceremony - a significant custom in which a ceremonial beverage is shared to mark important occasions in Samoa society. The Samoan word Ava is a cognate of the Polynesian word Kava associated with the Kava cultures in Oceania, including Pacific nations such as Fiji, Rotuma and Tonga. We would like to express our gratitude to our SCC Pasifika Parentā€™s Asosi for their guidance and support in carrying out this significant celebration. šŸ™ŒšŸ¾A special thanks to the SCC and SPC students for representing our colleges with pride and the Samoan culture with the utmost respect and dignity.šŸ¤Ž
