Resealing of Onepu Road - Tomorrow and Thursday

Joanne Robinson —

The WCC advise of some upcoming roadworks on Onepu Road. It is to be resurfaced, the area between Coutts Street and Cockburn Street, which is unfortunately directly outside the bus depot. This obviously provides a few logistical headaches and the decision has been made to do the work at night to minimise the impact on traffic and reduce the impact on bus services. Obviously, night work does provide its own challenges, but it is the lesser of two evils in this instance. They plan to be on site on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd February. Things will start ramping up from 7pm and go through until 5am. We’ll endeavour to complete all the noisiest work [which is the milling of the current road surface] before 11pm and do our utmost to keep noise to a minimum. However, the very nature of what we do means there will be some noise disturbance for which we apologise in advance. The section we’re working on will have a resident access only closure, meaning only people who live in that section will be given vehicular access, except for buses. All through traffic will have to follow the short detour via Cockburn Street and Queen’s Drive. This information and more can be found in the attached comms letter that was distributed to residents recently. Feel free to distribute or display this as you see fit. Lastly, I have to add that this work is weather dependent. The forecast seems to change every 5mins so there is a reasonable chance work will be postponed. We don’t mind working in the rain, buy laying fresh asphalt in the wet isn’t advised.
