Gratitude And Go Gently

Katrina Kerr-Bell —

This week we hosted two parent zoom meetings; NCEA evening hosted by Kate Lucas and Parenting during Lockdown hosted by Adrienne Buckingham. Thank you to those who were able to attend these. both had valuable information for us.

A metaphor given by Adrienne was Covid is a storm, and we are all in it. Some of us are in luxury yachts, while others are on paddleboards. I have shared a video from Nathan Wallis that summarised the 3 R's - Routine, Responsibility and Relax. I know that this lockdown has been a challenge for many of us. In my house, I gave an overly abundant amount of energy to 'what kettle we will buy to replace the one that has broken in lockdown'. Once the 'steam' had cleared, it was easier to recognise some apprehension about returning to level 2 and what this might mean.

We will likely return to school at some stage next week. We have arranged for the College to have a deep clean of all surfaces in anticipation of our return. We are aware that there are many staff, students and whanau that are anxious about this. However, the routine of school will be good for us.

Please encourage your daughter to return to school as soon as possible. They may feel anxious about work, what they haven't done. They may worry about being behind or simply being amongst people again. They will be tired, and getting a good sleep routine will be crucial leading up to this and once they are back at school. Of course, if they are unwell, they must stay home.

I can reassure you that we are also aware of the necessary time for adjustment and are seeking to make this return gentle.
