Te whakaaro nui ko te Atawhai - Wisdom is Mercy

"Love follows knowledge" Catherine of Sienna.

This is our first newsletter to our wider community.  We began 2023 with all of our staff, members of the Board, and whānau exploring and learning about the Te Atiawa pre-colonial history of the area.  In our new Strategic Plan, we are committed to Mātaranga Māori and to all of our students being confident in who they are as learners and in knowing who they are.  One of our community's strengths is that our students are loved at St Catherine's.

It has been a busy term, and we have appreciated that there have been no Covid restrictions.  Being able to gather as a community has been so appreciated.  We have celebrated our Academic Mass, Faith Food and Whānau evening, ASOSI fun day, ASOSI meetings, Whānau hui,  Athletics day, and student learning conversations.  We have held Year 13, 11 and 10 retreats.

Our year ten retreat to Jerusalem was an extraordinary event.  It has been a long time since we have had a school camp for Year 10.  Three SCC students who private board, and attend St Catherines are from Jerusalem up the Whanganui river, so to be able to hikoi to where they are from was special.  Jerusalem is significant for us as it is where Suzanne Aubert worked before coming to Island Bay with the Sisters of Compassion.  We are so blessed to have been able to strengthen this relationship.

We are currently preparing for the O'Shea Shield so, hopefully, we will be able to report to you next term with winning news.  A huge thank you to the alumni who are helping prepare our team, Moana, Roy, May and Frankie
