Stay Smart Online

Jo Earl —

Each week we are going to bringing you tips and tricks about how to help your children stay smart online.

We are fortunate to have a google domain for our school so that all our learners are under one umbrella. In order to have a google account legally you have to be aged 13 - none of our learners are  - however because we have a school domain we are able to give our students accounts to use for their learning.

Our students are being taught ways to be cybersmart in weekly sessions and one of the most important lessons is how to use online tools appropriately.

We are proud of the level of skill in our students - which enabled us to move into Distance Learning almost seamlessly. However some of our students have been using the Google Meet tool inappropriately and have been in meets without teachers present.

For this reason we have turned Google Meet off for the weekend and will now only turn it on when it is necessary for learning.

It is really important that we all work together to keep students safe online and we encourage to talk to your children about appropriate use of Google Meets.

Some tips:

- Ensure you can see the screen when your child is using the Chromebook

- Discourage use of Chromebooks in bedrooms and set a time where children need to be off their devices.

We are all in this together!
