Jo Earl —

We are all learners!

We have had a fantastic start to the year. Wandering through the Hubs we are seeing settled, happy and engaged students!

Next week we have 8 teachers in training joining our team until the end of term and we know you will make them all feel very welcome. We enjoy having teachers in training in the school - not only are they learning from us but we are learning from them as well.

Under the important dates article you will notice we are having a Teacher Only Day. You may remember last year when teachers were negotiating their pay claim that Government offered 8 Teacher Only Days over three years as part of the settlement. We are using two of these days this year. The first (Tuesday 10 March) we are using to upskill in and enhance our culturally responsive practice.

The second Teacher Only Day will be in Term 2 on Friday 29 May. On this day teachers from all the schools in our cluster will gather together to upskill in and enhance practice in the teaching of Reading across the schools.

Our cluster is working well together gathering data from our learners and using this information to inform our practice. This is a huge advantage of belonging to the Manaiakalani Outreach Programmes - we are very grateful for all the support we get from this team. The Woolf Fisher Research Centre collates and analyses our data - it is from here that we are able to observe trends and work together to ensure that Deliberate Teacher Actions that cause learning are evident in our practice in all areas of the curriculum we teach.
