Message from Canterbury District Health Board

Bev Sutherland —

Staying well during the school holidays

Canterbury is continuing to experience a significant wave of influenza, with 455 hospitalisations relating to complications from influenza already this year.

With school holidays starting next week, Canterbury DHB wants to remind parents that there are some simple ways to stop the spread and how they can look after themselves and their whānau.

We need your help to protect the most vulnerable people in our communities from the flu, including:

  • pregnant women
  • older people and particularly those living in aged care facilities
  • anyone with a long-term health condition such as heart or respiratory disease and most cancers
  • children aged four years and under who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness.

Please share the advice attached with your school community to help keep Cantabrians well this winter.

If you have any questions, please contact communications@cdhb.health.nz.
