Integrity – Doing the Right Thing, Even When No One is Watching
At our kura, we value integrity as an essential quality that helps our tamariki grow into responsible, kind, and trustworthy individuals. But what does integrity really mean, and how can we practise it every day?
What is Integrity?
Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. It means being honest, taking responsibility for our actions, and staying true to our values, even when it’s difficult. People with integrity earn the trust and respect of others because they are reliable and fair.
How Do We Practise Integrity?
Integrity isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we do! Here are some ways we can show integrity at school and in our daily lives:
🔹 Being Honest – Always telling the truth, even when it’s hard. If we make a mistake, we own up to it.
🔹 Keeping Our Promises – Following through on what we say we will do, whether it’s completing homework, being a good friend, or helping at home.
🔹 Doing the Right Thing – Standing up for what is fair and kind, even when others aren’t watching. This includes including others in games, using kind words, and treating everyone with respect.
🔹 Taking Responsibility – If we make a mistake, we don’t blame others—we learn from it and try to do better next time.
🔹 Being a Role Model – Encouraging others to make good choices and leading by example.
Integrity in Action at Our School
We see integrity in action every day at our kura! Whether it’s students returning lost items, standing up for others, or showing kindness without expecting a reward—these small moments make a big difference.
Challenge for Next Term
We encourage whānau to talk about integrity at home and help our tamariki practise it in their daily lives. Let’s work together to make integrity a strong part of our school culture!
