Tipu Challenge

Jo Earl —

We are setting a challenge for our Tumu and Kaupeka students.

Tipu is a language app that uses gamification and customisation to make learning Te Reo Māori easy, convenient and fun both in and out of the classroom.

Our school has invested in a login to this app for all our students in the Tumu and Kaupeka Hubs. They can access it on their Chromebooks and they all were emailed a reminder of their logins during the holiday break.

Research shows that there are many cognitive benefits of learning languages.  People who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills.

Learning from home is the perfect opportunity for our Tumu and Kaupeka students to use this app to improve their Te Reo. The teachers have a login that enables us to see who has logged in and who hasn't so we are setting a challenge for all the students.

The three students who make the most progress on the app during Distance Learning time will receive a mystery prize once we are back at school.

When you are helping your child plan their day - it would be great if you could remind them to plan for 20 minutes a day on Tipu.

When we are back at school we will be able to give you, the parents, a login to this portal as well so that you can see the progress that is being made.

Kia kaha te reo!

A side note:

Parents - you can download the Tipu app on your phone (it's free in the app store) and challenge your children - who can get to the highest level?

Learn alongside your children - show them that you are a learner too!
