Duathlon

Ellen Scott —

On the 22nd of January year 5 to 8’s students competed in the duathlon, let me say it was a hot day for everyone. Kids were running and, biking, sweat rolling down their foreheads from the boiling sun.

The day started with the year 5,6,7 and 8’s non competitive teams. This means that they were doing it for fun with someone, so the first teammate had to run 2 and a half km, the next teammate would bike 6km. After those races were done the competitive year 5 and 6 boys and girls had to run 2 laps around Walter Park then bike 5km, after that they ran 1 lap around the field. The year 7 and 8’s competitive participants had to run 2km then bike 6km, and run 1km after, this event definitely tiered out the competitors.

Casey Harrison, a year 8 girl in Kaupeka, came first in the duatlon. At the start she was a little nervous but mostly pumped and energised. Casey found that biking on the grass was difficult. One thing she felt at the end of the duathlon is that her legs felt like jelly. Overall the duathlon was a blast for everyone! Thanks to Mrs Scott for organising it (and the marshals).
