SFOA Student Blog Hop
Launching on Monday this would be a great thing for students to get involved in. Jo will be going live at 2pm tomorrow afternoon to answer any questions you may have about this.
On Monday we are going to launch the SFOA Student Blog Hop.
What is a blog?
A blog is an online platform where an individual can share their thoughts. At SFOA our Year 4-8 students have blogs where they share their learning. Below is an example of a blog from school.
What is a Blog Hop?
Each day I will be posting writing prompts for students to blog about. We will be reading the posts and commenting and giving guidance. Once the student has completed their post they will then be encouraged to "hop" onto another students blog and comment on their posts. This way we ensure that your child has an audience.
What's involved?
Daily writing prompts starting on Monday - children don't have to engage with all of them just the ones they want but the research does show the more they write the more they improve! They don't have to write all day long - maybe thirty to forty minutes a day. The writing posts don't have to be too long - we will give more guidance on this closer to the time.
Why?
This is a great way to connect and collaborate during this time when our school is physically closed but that isn't all!
This process has been used by the Manaiakalani schools over the Summer break - The Summer Learning journey and was created in response to concerns about the annual drop, slide or slump in literacy achievement experienced by students in schools. (SLJ 2019-2020).
Research has shown that students who take part in the Summer Learning Journey return to school after the summer break ready to learn, and achieve better results in reading and writing than students who do not participate.
Here at St Francis of Assisi we want to jump on the back of this research and offer this opportunity to our students - we hope that this will help our students continue to progress in this area of Literacy while we are physically distant - and it will be fun!
Let's get started!
If your child/children are interested fill out this google form so that we have an idea of how many students will be involved. You can join at anytime though so no problems there!
If your child has not blogged yet ... no problem. We will be sending instruction videos on how to navigate around the blogs and how to post next week.
Year 4-8 students already have their blogs made. We are currently creating blogs for Year 3 students - so if your child is in Year 3 and you complete the google form we will prioritise making their blogs.
If you are a parent of a Year 1 or 2 student perhaps you could think about creating a family blog where you could post pictures of your children's writing.
Jo will be going live to answer any questions you or your children may have at 2pm tomorrow (Saturday).
