Learning from home?

Jo Earl —

With the number of students isolating at home rising we thought we would put all the learning links in one place to make access easier.

Learning from Home

We do have a number of students isolating because they are household contacts.

We are very aware that this must be quite hard to manage in some households as some families have children in 2 or 3 of the Hubs as well as other schools. We don't expect that the learning for those at home will exactly mirror what the students would be doing at school however we want to make sure that you and your children have access to all that is available should you choose to get them to engage with the teaching and learning that is on offer.

The students in the Kaupeka and Tumu Hubs should be able to independently find their Hub site and access the learning in each curriculum area. They do this everyday at school. The learning is described or categorised under the headings of Learn (Ako), Create (Hanga) and Share (Tohatoha).

Paiaka and Kākano teachers have structured the learning for their students in the same way - some of these students might need just a little support from you to get to the correct place on the site.

The students can use the links to explore the learning for that day, then follow the guidelines to create with their new knowledge. They can share it with their teachers.

A good rule of thumb would be to get your children to do 30 minutes of Reading, Writing and Maths (at least) a day. We encourage you to get your children to engage with the learning that is on the Hub sites as it has been tailored just for them at their level.

If they need help they can email their kaiako. We are not providing any live lessons yet. We review this each day - and should numbers of those isolating keep rising, we will begin to provide a hybrid programme for  those at home. We will let you know if this changes.

We have attached some other learning packs under the helpful links above.

Please contact your child's Kaiako Manaaki if you have any questions or concerns at all.
