Changes for Term 2

Jo Earl —

In Term 2 the numbers of students in Kākano will increase and we need to increase the number of kaiako to keep teacher:student ratios low.

We have decided to move Kath Roach into the Kākano teaching team as of the beginning of Term 2. Melissa Finlayson will take over as Kaiako Manaaki for Paiaka 2 for the rest of the year.

Kath Roach was selected to be part of the Manaiakalani Innovative Teacher programme this year and has been working on a project that is based around the Structured Language programme that we have in place for all tamariki in Kākano and some students in Paiaka. It makes sense to have Kath teaching in Kākano where she can work on her project first hand with tamariki at different stages of the process and further her knowledge of this programme. This will benefit the development of this programme throughout our school.

The new cohort of tamariki coming into Kākano will have Kath Roach as their Kaiako Manaaki. Kath and Louise will work together along with the other Kaiako in the Hub to ensure the needs of our new tamariki are met.
